The league climbed through the classification ranks up to Class A1 in 1936 before returning to Double-A in 1946 after remaining idle for three years during World War II. As much as we love to watch the Rangers or the Astros, there is so much to be said for visiting one of the 11 Texas Minor League team games! That step is reminiscent of a failed attempt in 2012 by Wilmington city officials to bring an Atlanta Braves minor league team to the Port City. It was revived as a Class D league in 1902, moved to Class C in 1904 where it played through 1910 (except for 1906 as Class D again), played at Class B until 1920, and finally moved up to Class A in 1921. We salute the Sugar Land Lightning Sloths, the East Texas War Pigs, and their compatriots.
